The Robber Rocks are one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Szklarska Poręba. From here, a panoramic view of the Karkonosze Mountains and the Rudawy Janowickie Mountains unfolds.
An inn once stood here, where you could surely hear many stories about treasures hidden in the mountains and Rubenczal. An observation tower once stood on the site of the present-day terrace.
This isn't the only attraction, as below the viewpoint, a forest path leads to a magnetite mine, passing the remains of the monument to Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke – a Prussian general and field marshal of the Prussian Army, and later of the German Imperial Army.
The Robber Rocks are situated on the slopes of Czarna Góra, near the Monk's Forest. Like many places, this one also holds many legends. One of them tells the story:
A certain Beniamin Sender, a resident of Szklarska Poręba Dolna, was returning home from Zbójeckie Skały when he saw a Night Hunter in the forest. When people asked him about it, he spoke reluctantly, revealing only that the Night Hunter was accompanied by a pack of barking dogs, both large and small.
The second story tells of a ghost prowling the Monk's Forest. Old-timers of Szklarska Poręba Dolna told of a corpse wandering the area with its mouth open. One day, they caught it and sewed it shut, as it was believed this would prevent the ghost from rising from its grave and harassing people. However, this did not happen. Only after they dug up the grave where it lay did they chop off its head, and then peace was restored.
Just in case, it's best to stay away from this place after dark. You never know what might happen in the dark forest at night.
