Jelenia Góra is a beautiful city with 900 years of history.
According to legend, the town was founded by Prince Bolesław Krzywousty, who came to this area to hunt with his entourage. On one of the hills he hunted a large deer - hence the name of the city.
However, it is certain that Krzywousty built a stronghold on a hill near the confluence of the Bóbr and Kamienna rivers in the years 1108-1111, the ramparts of which are still visible today (currently, there is a tower built in the 19th century called Krzywousty's tower in this place).
The city is extremely beautifully situated. In the distance you can see the peaks of majestic mountains, forests touch the borders of Jelenia Góra, and nearby there is the Karkonosze National Park. As befits a stronghold founded in the early Middle Ages, Jelenia Góra has many interesting monuments to see.
Mention should be made of the Market Square with 55 colorful tenement houses with arcades, built mainly by wealthy merchants from Jelenia Góra. In the middle of the Market Square there is the Town Hall, an impressive building in the classicist style, and right next to it there is a former city well decorated with a statue of Neptune.
Jelenia Góra is often called the capital of the Karkonosze Mountains. It is both the administrative center of the region (the seat of the district authorities) and the cultural center. A number of interesting events take place here, such as the International Street Theater Festival, the Antique Fair and Theater Meetings. more
In Jelenia Góra there are: Zdrojowy Teatr Animacji - http://www.teatr.jgora.pl/, Dramatic Theater i.m.C.K. Norwid - http://www.teatrnorwida.pl/ and the Lower Silesian Philharmonic - http://www.filharmonia.jgora.pl/.
One of the most beautiful districts of Jelenia Góra is Cieplice. It is also one of the most beautiful health resorts in Poland. There is the recently thoroughly renovated Schaffgotch Palace, built in 1784-88. Adjacent to it is the extremely picturesque Spa Park.
The first mention of the French palace garden comes from the mid-18th century. However, in 1838, the park was thoroughly rebuilt according to the English style. The park is beautiful at any time of the year, but especially in autumn, when the oaks and beeches are covered with colorful clothes and in the distance you can see the Karkonosze Mountains in autumn colors, this park is unrivaled in the region. The Spa Animation Theater is located here - http://www.teatr.jgora.pl/ as well as the Norwegian Pavilion, which is currently the seat of the Natural History Museum - http://www.muzeum-lepszice.pl/.
