Classically in the Jizera Mountains

Szklarska Poręba - Jakuszyce - is undoubtedly one of the best cross-country skiing centers in Europe. This is confirmed by the growing number of foreigners on the Jakuszyce routes and their words of delight. Thanks to the excellent climatic conditions, the snow cover remains thick until late spring (the last ski event, Snow May Day, takes place every year on May 1). For years, the center has hosted the largest mass event of this type in Poland, known among cross-country skiing enthusiasts - "Bieg Piastów".

"The Chronicles of Narnia" in the Kamieńczyk Waterfall

Kamieńczyk Waterfall - one of the most beautiful places in the Karkonosze Mountains - played in the British production of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian". The charm and fairy-tale atmosphere of the Kamieńczyk Gorge were appreciated by Andrew Adamson, director of the British film adaptation of the well-known and appreciated book by C. S. Lewis. The residents of Szklarska Poręba are not surprised by the choice of the film's producers. In the Kamieńczyk gorge, with its vertically rising rock walls and the sound of water falling from high, you can feel as if you had descended into a fairy-tale kingdom.

Solar System Model 1:1 000 000 000

An incredible attraction for tourists and lovers of the starry night sky was created in the Jizera Mountains, on the Jizera Road from the Orle housing estate to the Jizera settlement.

As part of the Jizera Dark Sky Park, an astropath has been designated - a model of the Solar System on a scale of 1:1 000 000 000, so one meter on the path = 1 000 000 000 meters in space, or 1 000 000 km.

Along the path, there are boulders with plaques showing the symbols of the planets in the solar system, their names and representations of the shape to scale. Each boulder comes from a different Lower Silesian quarry, and the colors of the rocks are selected to resemble the colors of the planets they symbolize.

The astronomical path is a kind of living lesson in astronomy and geology. Thanks to its location in the mountains, we can get to know not only the valuable nature of the unique corner of the Sudetes, which is the Upper Jizera Valley, learn something about the regional rocks, but also enrich our knowledge about a fragment of space.

This unique educational path has been called among tourists the Jizera journey through the Solar System, paths to the stars, or touching the Universe.

The astropath was created thanks to astronomers working at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Wrocław: Dr. Tomasz Mrozek and Dr. Sylwester Kołomański, a forester from Świeradów-Zdrój Zbigniew Kamiński and the host of the ORLE Tourist Station Stanisław Kornafel, with the participation of many enthusiasts of the astronomical use of the Jizera Mountains for observation and science.

Mountain Spirit with a time capsule

The "time capsule" rests at the feet of the Mountain Spirit, standing on the Radio Three Creators Square.

She was ceremonially placed there on November 18 A.D. 2010 . Liczyrzepa will protect it for the next half a century. Only in 50 years, on the hundredth anniversary of granting city rights to our city, will it be opened by the next generation of Szklarska Poręba residents. What will they find in the capsule, or rather in two "time capsules" placed in a tightly closed metal box?

The first of them contains documents describing our present. These include, among others: Nowiny Jeleniogórskie, Municipal Bulletin Pod Szrenica, Głos Szklarskiej Poręba Internet Newspaper, collective photograph of the inhabitants of Szklarska Poręba, Composition of the City Council of the 5th term, management of the City Hall and municipal organizational units and occasional wishes from the Friends of Radio Three

The second capsule contains the symbols we use in 2010, including: : Coat of Arms of the City, Polish circulation coins, Walloon Star with amethyst, certificate of the Mineralogical Capital of Poland, Medal of Participation in the Piast Run, city ducats.

A replica of the museum of the House of the brothers Gerhard and Carl Hauptmann, the Karkonosze Spirit of the Mountains - an outline of history from the Izera Society, materials promoting Szklarska Poręba, symbols of the police, kindergartens and schools.

The capsule also included 1 silver Walloon AuRun, as well as a stamped clue to the beginning of the trail, at the end of which in 2060 you will be able to find 12 silver AuRuns funded by Dorota and Robert Pawłowski.

The ceremony of sealing the capsule was attended by many residents of our city and representatives of associations and offices; as well as schools and kindergartens. For the latter, it was a great lesson in identifying with the "Little Homeland", which is our Szklarska Poręba community.

It is possible that many of today's preschoolers and students will take part in the ceremonial unsealing of the capsules 50 years from now. The awareness that the entire operation would come to an end in half a century made those who witnessed the sealing of the capsule feel as if they were participating in an extraordinary celebration.

The originator of the "time capsule" is Bartosz Wójcikiewicz, a resident of our city. The sealing of the "message to the future" was another part of the celebrations related to the 50th anniversary of granting city rights to Szklarska Poręba.
