Szklarska Poręba - a town located in the valley of the Kamienna River and its tributaries at an altitude of 440-1471 m above sea level, from the south on the slopes of the Karkonosze Mountains with Szrenica towering over the town (1362 m above sea level), from the north on the slopes of the Jizera Mountains with Wysoki Kamień (1058 m above sea level) and Czarna Góra (965 m above sea level), and from the east, the hills of the Karkonosze Foreland separate the city from the Jelenia Góra Valley.

The town is divided into Szklarska Poręba Dolna, Średnia and Górna. The most extensive is Górna, with conventional districts: Śródmieście, Marysin, Szklarka, Biała Dolina and the highest situated colony near the border crossing to the Czech Republic - Jakuszyce.

Szklarska Poręba covers a large area of 75.44 km2, of which as much as 84% is forest. There are few areas in Poland as favorable for recreation as the area around Szklarska Poręba. Silence, constantly changing landscapes, depending on the lighting or time of day, combined with the sound of crystal-clear streams and waterfalls falling surrounded by granite rocks - these are elements that have an extremely soothing effect on human nature.

Szklarska Poręba is the largest climatic station in Lower Silesia, known and appreciated since the mid-19th century. The climatic conditions prevailing here are comparable to the values of Alpine towns located at an altitude of over 2000 m above sea level. The main advantage of Szklarska Poręba as a winter sports center is the long-lasting snow cover - on average 110 days a year, which makes it a real paradise for winter sports enthusiasts.

Szklarska Poręba is the largest winter sports center in the Polish Sudetes. The center of downhill skiing is the Szrenica massif, where there are 5 downhill slopes with a total length of approximately 12 km, with varying degrees of difficulty (100% snow-making).

The ski lift network consists of a two-section chairlift and 5 drag lifts. In 2010, a new cable railway "Karkonosz Express" was put into operation. This "six-person couch" is the longest ski lift of this type in Poland. There are also many small cable or T-bar lifts scattered across the slopes of the city.

In Szklarska Poręba-Jakuszyce, snow remains thick until late spring. The cross-country trails of this cross-country skiing center, with a total length of approximately 80 km, can meet the expectations of both professional athletes and cross-country skiing enthusiasts (the highest trails are located at an altitude of almost 1,000 m above sea level), and after the winter season they serve the needs of two-wheeled enthusiasts.

Bicycle - a popular means of transport, a way to spend free time, and often a way of life. Tourists coming to Szklarska Poręba more and more often take a bicycle in addition to a toothbrush, because riding a bicycle is becoming very popular.

The entire network of picturesque trails in the Karkonosze and Jizera Mountains is a network of bicycle routes of varying degrees of difficulty - some with sharp climbs and adrenaline-inducing descents, others created for bicycle trips for the whole family.

Road cycling enthusiasts are invited to take part in dozens of kilometers of roads running in one direction to the Karkonoskie Foothills and in the other to the Jizera Foothills. Some of these routes are already perfectly prepared for riding on two wheels and are part of the ongoing bicycle paths project of the Nysa Euroregion.

If we add to the offer of our town the possibility of hiking along tourist trails (beautiful, picturesque routes within the Karkonosze National Park and the Jizera Mountains), mountain climbing and searching for minerals - we will have a full vision of the various attractions that Szklarska Poręba offers.

Szklarska Poręba is also an excellent starting point for trips to the nearby holiday resorts of Lower Silesia and the Czech Karkonosze Mountains (based on several border crossings, both on foot and by car - up to golden Prague).
