Szklarska Poręba is an extraordinary place. A fairytale, even. The landscape is woven with sapphire shades of forests, mountains, chasms, rushing streams, secrets, and tales that linger around the ear like an Indian summer. For centuries, its secrets have attracted those seeking wealth and the secret recipes of spice makers, glassmakers, and alchemists.
In the lower part of the mountain town, more precisely on the slopes of Czarna Góra in the Jizera Mountains, nestled amidst a spruce forest, lurk the Pyrite Adits.
Deep underground, in stone corridors, miners searched for pyrite – a mineral whose brilliance cunningly deceived gold prospectors.
It was here, in the twilight of the underground adits, that alchemical dreams and the desire to make a fortune permeated reality, while the vitriol pit located on the Kamienna River exuded the scent of sulfur.
Today, the former miners have been replaced by wanderers eager for stories, but only those who can listen will discover the mines' secrets. Although only a small section is accessible, a single step is enough to feel someone's gaze upon you, hear a whisper, and hear the echo of history enshrined in stone.
